The aim of this study is to investigate the students’ challenge in translating poetry. The current study based upon the benefit of understanding poetry to build harmony in the society. Writers used descriptive qualitative research as the design of this study. The subject of the study were the sixth semester students of English Education Department of Universitas PGRI Semarang who had passed the Translation 1 subject and join the Translation 2 at the present time. The population of this study was 143 students in sixth semester. Writers then chose 20 students as the sample of this study. Students were assigned to translate English poem entitled ‘Huesca’ into Indonesian. The poem was written by John Conford, an American soldier who was endured on World War. After the assignment project, they were asked to respond the questionnaire related to the process of translating the poem and problems encountered. The finding revealed that most of students admitted that their biggest problem in poetry translation is associated with the linguistic difference. It refers to grammatical differences (source language and target language), lexical choices and meaning ambiguity. There were many factors behind the problems that encounter students in translating the English poem into Indonesian. Factors related to the culture, the use of figurative language, and the different structure between original poem and the target language are considered as main hindrances in translating literary works. The educational implication of the study is that our students need to be familiarized with literary works and its process of translation. However, since this study was only held in 2 months and had limited participants, the result of the study cannot be generalized. Further research, therefore, need to conduct by other researcher in order to get broader insight toward the theme
2023-06-19T08:25:19+07:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Rahmawati Sukmaningrum, Arso Setyaji, Faiza Hawa https://jurnal.fkip-uwgm.ac.id/index.php/Borju/article/view/1202 Impact of Online Science Learning on Children Aged 5-6 During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study at Barunawati Kindergarten 3 Samarinda 2023-06-30T16:10:42+07:00 Evie Palenewen eviepalenewen@yahoo.com Tamara Dewi Audiya tamaradewi41@gmail.com Fachrul Rozie fachrul.rozie@fkip.unmul.ac.id
The objective of this research is to provide a depiction of the effects of online science education on children between the ages of 5 and 6 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in relation to the development of science learning abilities in this age group. This research aims to investigate the challenges and barriers encountered during the execution of science education for children aged 5–6 years at Barunawati 3 Samarinda Kindergarten. Hence, the findings of this research offer valuable insights for educational institutions to enhance their online science education programs, thereby facilitating a smooth transition of children to formal schooling.
2023-06-27T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Evie Palenewen, Tamara Dewi Audiya, Fachrul Rozie https://jurnal.fkip-uwgm.ac.id/index.php/Borju/article/view/1333 The Use of Snakes and Ladders Game to Improve Students’ Grammar at the Second Grade of Mts DDi Baru 2023-07-23T13:33:14+07:00 Devi Triani defitrianipolman@gmail.com Rabiatul Adawiah rabiatuladawiah@stainmajene.ac.id Nihla Afdaliah nihla.afdaliah@stainmajene.ac.id
The second graders of MTs DDI Baru face several issues in learning English. Those become obstacles for them to get good achievement in the subject. One of the most difficult issue for them is they could not even compose a simple sentence properly using basic tenses such as simple present and simple past tense. The researcher tried to use game-based learning, in this case, using Snakes and Ladders game to solve the problem. So that, this research aims to find out the significant effect of using of snakes and ladders game in improving students’ grammar ability. This research design applied research with one pre-test and one post-test design in the experimental and control class. From 5 classes, the researcher chose 2 classes as sample by using cluster random sampling. The data analysis result revealed that the post-test mean score (74.07) is greater than the pre-test mean score (37.24) in experimental class. The results of the t-test also confirm that the p-value is 0.001, or smaller than 0.05, whereas the t-value is 8.87 or greater than t-table 2.048. So, by considering the p and the t value, the reseacher withdraw conclusion that H₁ is accepted which states that the use of the Snakes and Ladders game can improve students’ grammar. However, another interesting finding reveals that there is also improvement of students’ scores in the control class but not as significant as in the experimental class. The mean score increased 15.86 points while in the experimental class it increased 36.83 points
2023-08-30T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Devi Triani, Rabiatul Adawiah, Nihla Afdaliah https://jurnal.fkip-uwgm.ac.id/index.php/Borju/article/view/1341 Writing a narrative text in Writing for Information and Enjoyment Class utilising Project Based Learning 2023-07-22T14:24:27+07:00 Yeni Rahmawati yr173@umkt.ac.id Khusnul Khatimah kk645@umkt.ac.id Dzul Rachman dr650@umkt.ac.id
The objective of this study was to examine the impact of project-based learning (PBL) on enhancing students' proficiency in narrative writing.
